    Background

    The Generate employment and increase income for the Poor Fund (GEF) is a unit of the Microfinance and Community Development Institute. Its management and governing board is independent from the microfinance and community development institute. Its operation and its financial management are managed transparently and independently from those of the microfinance and community development institute.

    Vision

    To be the community based finance service center of choice for rural households, small traders and micro-entrepreneurs, especially poor households, and households at disadvantaged areas. With our vision, we provide a variety of competitive services and quality products to serve our clients.

    The Generate employment and increase income for the Poor Fund (GEF) provides micro financial services to help our clients to access the assistance that they require to reach financial self-sufficiency in developing their production and businesses to increase their incomes as well as to generate employment for them. In supporting the development of small businesses we seek not simply to help our clients to generate employment, income but to help them to improve their financial management capabilities. Further, in realization that self-sufficiency requires a long-term view we seek to encourage a culture of savings among these populations and to ensure that they take the view that saving for their children’s education is a sound investment opportunity. Importantly the Generate employment and increase income for the Poor Fund (GEF) is both a link to credit and other services for these communities. We view our role as providers of financial management consulting services for these small and medium enterprises as an essential component in their development to improve their competitiveness. Our products and services are designed to serve our clients’ demand, especially the poor and marginalized members of society in sustainable ways as we encourage communities of learning and peer support. The Generate employment and increase income for the Poor Fund (GEF) is committed to become to the long term development of its activities in the communities it serves to become an agent of change via the provision financial services to facilitate a lasting and positive impact on the rural poor.

    Mission :

    The Mission of the Community Based Finance Center is to advance the financial self-sufficiency as well as business skills of our clients. We are given to serve for our clients’ benefit especially for that of who can be described as poor and those who reside in geographical areas that are classified as disadvantaged, and others who can be considered marginalized in society. We are charged with enhancing the productive capacities of our clients, with ensuring the sustainability of their operations, with enhancing their financial management capabilities and facilitating the positive improvements in their living standards.  Finally, from our activities our over-arching objective is to reduce their vulnerability while enabling them to become more active participants in the development of both their families and communities

    Objectives:

    To develop a network of centers providing described services for selected populations that are:

    • Community-based
    • Convenient
    • Variety of products and Services to meet clients’ demand
    • Sustainable

    The range of services provided has been designed:

    • to supply relevant and quality financial services and products
    • to support the development of productive and financially solvent small and medium enterprises
    • to increase the generation of livelihood activities and employment
    • to increase income for households
    • to generate a culture and habit of savings among populations served
    • to support the habit of saving for children’s education as an important investment decision
    • to develop sound and relevant business knowledge and skills in the communities served
    • to create communities of learning to help individuals and communities to transform their quality of life.

    The Generate employment and increase income for the Poor Fund (GEF) is determined and able to achieve its vision and mission through the combination of the following five strategic principles:
